Seems the Island People (no, not those) still got their Superman drawers in a bunch. One of the unfortunate things about living on an island in the third world is that everyone around you thinks that it is the center of the universe. And part of that involves ruthlessly ridiculing others, without taking the time to laugh at themselves. In the midst of the kidnapping/ Chief Justice/ Opposition Leader hype, Trinidadibogians are more concerned about the fact that the whole world is having a few jokes over this Elton John thing, and how they are being portrayed in the media.
I'd like to suggest that maybe next time Tobagodadians, you might want to think about just not giving so much airtime to homophobia and mindless religious banter in the first place. Either that, or stop putting your newspaper articles up on the webbernets - that way the Big Bad International Media can't get a hold of your silly stories in the first place.

Queer nation - Tobago music fans warn Elton
Next month's Plymouth Jazz Festival in Tobago features a headline appearance by Elton John. Not all islanders approve. Breakfast TV show Rise & Shine this week had a phone-in about Elton. Presenters refused to condemn a caller who thought Elton should be subjected to earthly hellfire for his "poisonous" lifestyle, while another asked, "Is it your understanding that he is planning a hideous nude gay orgy on stage or in private during his visit?". Callers complaining about the homophobia were told on air, "Opinions are like noses, everyone has one".
Now a Tobago lawyer has unearthed a section of the Trinidad and Tobago immigration code which bans self-professed homosexuals from entering the country, and a Church crusade is underway to try and make the government enforce it. Music fans on the island are hoping Elton manages to get through this gauntlet of hate...they say they'd rather LL Cool J was banned from the jazz festival instead.
