If you've got a thing for pictures, give Joanne Johnson a hail, she's looking for volunteer photographers:

A mobile unit will tour our country from June to October this year to host community discussions about environmental awareness. The intention is to gather consciousness from the people of T&T towards protecting our land against the proposed smelter and to set precedents for further indiscriminate industrialization.

  • You can offer as little or as much time as you feel joyfully willing and able
  • Get one other person to contribute in some way
  • A camera will be provided
Check the Smelta Karavan website, or call Joanne at 629.6582/ 355.6930.

My boy Colin did this shoot in Tobago on the weekend. Pretty straightforward stuff, 'cept the picture doesn't show the chickens hanging out in the drain, or the fat man/crazy man directing traffic, or the amazing heritage buildings that will soon be torn down and replaced by gaudy celebrations of 21st century island architecture.

Long sigh.

Went to check out the horse racing down at Santa Rosa on Easter Monday. It's like Zen for old people, lots of women in Bad Ideas and men in colourful shirts that their daughters bought for them in Miami. But it was a truly amazing experience, they even managed to have a really bad cover band that sang everything from Michael Jackson to Chaka Demus & Pliers. Unfortunately we got there late, but here is a poorly composed picture of one horse beating all the other horses by a whole lot.

What do you mean? OF COURSE i believe everything i read on the side of the highway. Elton Johns of the world, rejoice.

April now has 31 days.

If you can't make it to the Peer Gallery tomorrow night, here's something that might be of interest. The boys from Above Studios will be showcasing some of Alex Smailes' latest work at Alice Yard in Woodbrook. Gareth sends:
I'm going to be playing DJ tomorrow night, working the iTunes to go with a selection from Alex of recent pics. It's at 'Conversations in the Yard', a weekly event from 12 the band. If you haven't been as yet it's a bit like going round to a friend's house who has set up a bar in their backyard. v.chilled. Location is Alice Yard, 80 Roberts Street, Woodbrook. Opposite side of the street from Brooklyn Bar, about three doors down heading East. From 8:30ish.
More artists turned iPod Deejays? Lookout, world.

Another classic from the POSHHH:
$30 for an ICC rum and coke? Where there's a will, there's a way....

My boy in NY sends:
I took this pic with my phone last week friday at the Atlantic Avenue train stop in BK . It was posted by the fire department and was on the inside of one of those glass fire panels. I think the fire department needs to either use spell check in MS Word or just hire ppl who can f...ing spell.
What they NEED to do is stop hiring "individuals between the ages of 18 to 40 years old with at least 3 O'Levels." Aww shit, this isn't in Trinidad. Well just stop hiring those damned immigrants then.

Shark mouth, bitches.
